Taking some photos of cherry on the Takasegawa channel and at the Tempozan park. A personal concern about the work for a degree... I'll tell you what I'm going to do later. Some news: I got a qualification class 2 for a supervision of landscaping works. It was a long time untill I got such an honor, Thanks to some people who gave me some advice. I left the gardening firm. It's a kind of seasonal work and they told me they haven't got much work for me for the moment till summer. It's a pity for me and them, I liked the job and hoped to keep gardening for my career but I decided to make a move to landscape design (and hopefully working abroad in near future, :-). But first, I've got to graduate from the college, YES, I DO! The last news is, I am hooked on Nick Heyward's blog... Is there anyone who remembers Haircut 100 and Nick Heyward from the 80's british pop music?? Well I guess maybe one or two people in the towns and cities still love him, remember him sometimes, google him and finally find his blog in a SNS, just like me. His writing is tricky and charming, full of tones of delight, always making me happy and sometimes I give a sigh with joy. That is just like, Candy candy's discovery of Uncle Albert whom she found the prince on the hill.
高瀬川と天保山公園で撮った夜桜。卒業制作で少し興味があって、いずれお話できれば。いくつか近況報告など。その１、2級造園施工監理に受かった〜。この手の快挙は実に久しぶりで、いや〜良かった。ご協力いただいた人たちに感謝。その２、気に入って働いていた造園屋さんを、このたび諸事情から退職。一種季節労働なので、この春から夏にかけて仕事が減ってしまったため…お互い残念でしたが、かえって決心ついてやっぱりランドスケープデザインのほうへ進もう（それでもって希望は海外）と思うようになりました。しかし、その前に学校卒業しないとな！そうですとも。その３、ニック・ヘイワードのブログにはまってます。ヘアカット・ワンハンドレッドとかニック・ヘイワードとかってつまり80年代ブリティッシュポップのまあアイドル的なグループなんですけど、誰か知ってるんだろうか？私の見積もりでは各々の町や市にそれぞれ1人か2人くらい、ニックはどうしてるかな〜と気になって、たまにググッてみたりして、とあるSNSにて彼のブログをついに見つけてしまう人がいる…って私ですねそれは。しかし彼の文章はなかなかトリッキーで好ましく、いつも喜びの色合いが日々微妙に違っていて、にっこりしたりあまりに嬉しくてため息までついてしまうのであります。その発見は、ちょうど丘の上の王子様が実はアルバートおじさんだった！！というのに匹敵しますね。

I always love the Kyoto botanical garden. Especially it's just a count-down for the flower burst this time of the year, wonderful. I saw the weeping cherry, chaenomeles speciosa, peaches, camellias, and many many many more. I found a way to take cool pictures of flowers. That is, I say, the art of doing the white-eye bird.
いつ行っても京都植物園は楽しい。特に今時期は花真盛りカウントダウンの様相である、ステキ。枝垂れ桜、ボケ、桃、椿、そのほかいーーーっぱい、見てきた。この頃の花を撮るにあたって、ピリカイナンクルは忍法メジロなりきりの術を使う。

メジロが夢中になってくるくる飛び跳ね、時におなかを上に向け、我が妹の観察によれば蛇にねらわれてるのも気付かないくらいに花をむさぼる、これスナワチ無我の境地なり。

Didn't Mean to Go to the Osaka Port / pirikainankle

I thank you for your joining us at the Stem gallery. I wonder if you enjoyed the talk and pictures about Stowe garden, I mean I just wanted to let you know how I found the pleasure outside and it does't matter if it's in the urban Osaka port or the rural garden in England. Don't think. Feel. Hahaha.
I asked the visitors to tell me about your own garden, which is not the proper one, just a place you feel so good when you go out of your house. That was great to know for me.
Mr. A: Climbing roses tangled in an arch at someone's house
Mr. B: River bank, wind's stroking the grass in the dusk.
Mr. C: A seat he always hang out looking around the garden
Ms. D: A shrubb garden with hosts, fernsetc.
Ms. E: A grand sheet of water reflecting the range of mountain.
Mr. F: A path in the forest, dark with ceders and cypresses, winding slope...
Mr. G: Looking down the river from a bridge, another bridge at the focal point
Mr. H: Perching on a pier in evening, the dock of the bay. Like Otis, isn't it?
After that some of us visited to the Chikko public bath to join in a concert at the echoing bath room! We all enjoyed the the Mongolian fiddle called "Batoukin". It evokes me a sentiment and sensation, as if I were travelling through tne country. Great thanks to Punyor san for the review.
Well it was a day of lots and lots of things happening and I felt involved with a tornade, which is the people of Tempozan in the middle. I never dreamt about this situation making a journey from Kyoto, but I love it. Thanks to Sato san from the Stem gallery, and all of you, I like the sweets, off course!

トークご来場のみなさま、どうもありがとうございました。ストウの話と写真でみんな楽しんでいただけたでしょうか？？今回はイギリスの人の活動を見て私が外空間の楽しみをいかに見つけたか…という話のつもりでした。それは都会の大阪港であろうがイギリスの田舎の庭であろうが、そこにあるんじゃないかな〜と思っています。ま「考えるな。感じるんだ。」ということで（笑）
来てくれた人には、「勝手にマイガーデン2007」と銘打って、自宅を一歩出て出会う好きな場所を紹介してもらいました。ちゃんとした庭じゃなくて自分が「発見」した場所を庭と見なす行為のことです。みなさんそれぞれありました。

Ｈさん 暮れなずむ天保山赤レンガ倉庫裏の堤防にたたずむ。ドック・オブ・ザ・ベイ、おおオーティスですか。
この後、何人か一緒に築港温泉へ。銭湯の浴室でコンサートのパイロット版でした。モンゴルの馬頭琴を弾いてくれて、モンゴルの風土に思いをはせながら哀愁とか心のざわめきとか味わいました。詳しくはぷにょさんの素晴しいレポートをどうぞ。
なんだかいろんなことがいっぱい一辺にやってきて竜巻に巻き込まれてしまったような感じ。中心にいるのは天保山の人たちなんですが。そんな日でした。京都からやってきてこういう事態が待ってるとは思いませんでしたが、楽しいからいっか。ステムギャラリーの佐藤さんはじめみなさんありがとう！お菓子美味しくいただきました。

Rippling on Channels, the Talk Show / pirikainankle

Look, see these peach blossoms, one in deep pink and the other in mixed with white. Cool isn't it? I had waited for a week or more till they came up.
On 6th April I visited the Stem Gallery and joined in the talk show by Tanuki san and Kitsune san. Showing a series of old block prints on the town and people of Osaka Tanuki san talked about the past landscape associated with the water. As you know the channel running through all the city was the vital transportation system and people used to enjoy the water life making use of what they could get in the locality. The artists found a picture in these life scenes, such as the cherry avenue on the river bank, the riding on a boat for the night-out, the business at the fishery in early morning... That is the garden on the water, said Tanuki san. Wow, I know very well what you mean. Any landscape architect couldn't match those common people's life integration and the rediscovery of the place. Meanwhile, Kitsune san talked about the devotion to the city by Goichi Takeda showing the plan of Shin Osaka hotel. I was impressed that his talk revealed the architect's devises to make people feel confortable. Many people say something about the appearance of his design, but I guess they never mentioned his effort for the user-friendry integlation of his design.
さて桃が咲いた。濃い桃色の花と白とピンクの絞りになった花が一枝になっているのがわかるかな。一週間以上待ったかいがありました。
4月6日はステム・ギャラリーでたぬきさんときつねさんのトーク。たぬきさんは『浪花百景』という錦絵を見せながら水の都大阪の風景について。知っての通り、かつての大阪には水路がはりめぐらされ水運が重要な交通機関だった。人々がいかに水上生活を楽しみ、それを地元で手に入るもので作り上げ、画家たちがそういう町の風景を絵として見立てたというお話。絵になったのは、川辺の桜並木だったり、夜遊びの船出だったり、はたまた魚場の朝のにぎわいであったり…それがつまり水上の「庭」なのです、とたぬきさん。ああ、それすっごいいいなあー。庶民の生活の営みが地域の顔を作り、画家が再発見した風景にはどんなランドスケープ・デザイナーもかなわないですよ。一方きつねさんのトークは武田五一の大阪での貢献について。新大阪ホテルの図面などを披露しながら、人々がどうしたら快適に使ってくれるか、武田の工夫を明らかに。武田のデザインの外観について話す人は多いけれど、使い手への調和を考えて努力する武田について口にする人は今までなかったんじゃないかな。

Goodbye Bridge / pirikainankle

The Amarube iron bridge was looking down to the village along the seashore. My friends and I drove up to see the last look of the hundred-year-old red trestle bridge. As you know the remodeling work is now going and it will turn to the precast concrete in 2010. It's a shame that we won't be able to share this fabulous landscape with the old-fashioned bridge, but I suppose it's a delicate issue due to the past derailment and fall of the train in 1986, especially when you see the the less tourism in the town. Still it's the heritage of industrial modernization for me... Also I found the houses all look nice and preety, built in the traditional fisherman style, beautifuly planked and mortared and the ceramic roofing on top. It was a strange weather, early spring storm blew on the sea and just suddenly the blue sky peeped on us in short spell and at last the snow fell on the hills turning in powdery white after dusk. Great fun with the local seafood, snow view and the hot spring. 
餘部鉄橋は海辺の集落を見渡すように建っていた。100歳の赤い鉄橋の有終の美を見納め。周知の通り架け替えの準備が進められ、2010年のコンクリート橋へ生まれ変わる予定。このスバラシ眺めが見られなくなるのは寂しいけれど、脱線落下事故のことがあってデリケートな問題か。それでもなお近代化産業遺産としての存在感…。集落の家並みが典型的な漁村の家スタイルで横に渡した板と漆喰と桟瓦できれいに整えられていました。この日は早春の嵐が海に吹きつけたかと思うと、突然晴れ間がのぞいて、しまいに暗くなってから雪が山々に降り積もるという変な天気。地元のお魚も食べたし、雪化粧も堪能したし、温泉も入ったしで楽しい旅行で大満足。(070311)

At the begining of March, some pruning works. Sometimes I brought some branches back home before they go to bin. I got some Acasia baileyana, rosemary, and so on, it's a wonderful job to have those flowers. Hello Spring, it's good to see you again! Also I also got pretty peach branches due to the transplantation from the demolition cite. It was funny that we met some wreckers looked very happy to share clipped branches with some buds, although they look quite muscular type. The blossome seemed to need some more time to come out at the moment, and I will show you later. 
3月上旬は剪定の仕事がいくつか。いい枝があるとごみに出す前に分けてもらうこともある。今回はギンヨウアカシアの黄色い小さなポンポンが春らしい房咲きと、ローズマリーとかそんなのをもらった。役得、役得。春がまたやって来たんだねえ。それから解体現場にあるハナモモを移植させる仕事で、それも枝をもらってきた。これには他の解体業者さんが現場にいたんだが、普段は筋肉質タイプのおじさんたちが花芽のついた桃の枝を同じようにもらってひどく嬉しそうにしていたのが、なんだか意外でいい感じでした。この時の枝は開花にはまだ早い感じ。次回お楽しみに。

Something Going on at the Waterfront / pirikainankle

5th March. Came down to Stem gellery on the waterfront Tempozan Osaka port, met Sato san and Kitsune san. Sato san is a head of the gellery, the English garden and the heritage building lover, and managing a history and art event "History of the townscape on the waterfront PART2" focusing on the Osaka port. As some of you already know, There are Sumitomo brick warehouses and modernism buildings still remaining aroud this area and showing the history of marine transport enterprises. Some buildings have been refurbished and become local symbols like "cafe HaHaHa" of the Temmaya building and the Shosen Mitsui building including Stem Gellery. Tempozan was set up as a brand-new cultural town like the Suntry art museum and the Kaiyukan aquarium about a decade ago but now it's something more exciting going on based on the local activity. Sato san is one of the leading figures, and Tanuki san and Kitsune and some circle of their friends are getting together.
24th March. First of all we started a sketch exhibition at the gellery. It was raining so some drew the inside of the building which looks characteristic with the modernism structure, others went out to catch a landscape along the waterfront. It was a pre-workshop to brak ice and raise the motivation, and we enjoyed talking through those pictures although we are not that good at drawing. Hope you call in the gellery and enjoy our drawings until 14th April.
Also I'm having a talk on 14th April at the Stem gellery. I'm gonna present "a life and fun at the Stowe garden". I suppose it would be great if I could tell you about the delight of the space outdoors.

3月5日。大阪港・天保山のステムギャラリーにて、きつねさんからさとうさんに引き合わせていただきました。さとうさんはギャラリーの主宰をしていてイギリスのお庭とか歴史遺産建造物が大好きな人。大阪港のモダニズムの歴史に焦点をあてた「海岸通建物物語part2」を開催なさる。このブログに遊びに来てくれる人は、すでに知っている人もいますが、天保山には海運業の歴史を物語る赤レンガ倉庫とかモダニズム・ビルとかがまだ残っている。こうした近代建築を再生して地域のシンボルとなっているのが、カフェ・ハaハaハaのある天満屋ビルとか、ステム・ギャラリーを含む商船三井ビルなのであります。天保山というと海遊館とかサントリーミュージアムとか10数年前くらいにまっさらな文化スポットとして持ち上げられた感じがありますが、今ここにきて地域に根差した動きが楽しみになってきました。それでもって立役者の一人がさとうさん、というわけです。たぬきさんときつねさんも応援していて、周辺のともだちも集まって、この地域の遺産を生かして盛り上がっていきたいねえ、という感じデス。
3月24日。そんなわけで有志による前ふりワークショップといいますか、天保山スケッチ展。あいにくの天気でしたが、10数人が紙とペンもち、商船三井ビルのモダニズムの香りあふれる内装を描いたり、外に出て海岸通のどこか異国的な町の風景を捕らえに行ったりとスケッチにいそしみました。久しぶりに絵を描く人ばかりで、プロのような仕上がりには程遠いですが、絵を通じて地域の話で盛り上がって、交流会としてはとってもいいものになったと思います。もし良かったらステムギャラリーで展示しているので機会があったらのぞいてみてください。14日まで。
それから、14日(土)は私ピリカイナンクルもしゃべります。「庭へようこそ、ストウ・ダイアリー」というテーマで、天保山とは直接関係ないけれども、ストウですごした四季の楽しみからはじまって、屋外空間で遊ぶ、というような話になっていけばいいんですけど！（いちおうたぬきさんが水上「庭園」天保山とおっしゃるので、庭園つながりになればいいなと個人的には思っております！？）2-3時まで、お茶つき500円、予約お問い合わせはステム・ギャラリー06-6599-2877までか、ピリカに直接でも。

Tanuki san and Kitsune san are great missionaries of the architect Goichi Takeda (1872-1937). They are just happy when talking about the design and works by the Kyoto-based prominent figure who lived in an age of Secession and Mordernism. After walking about the Daitokuji, Hana and I joined their talk show at a traditional townhouse. I was impressed with Tanuki san's keen eye on the detail of the desgin -- such as the pattern of tiles, the mold of mortar, and the finishing touch of the joint. Also he never give up figuring out how and why those shapes and patterns were brought out. If the subtle taste of the building depends on the hidden eloquence... I've got to watch one much far carefully, since I tend to see things only in rough analogy.
たぬきさんときつねさんは建築家・武田五一(1872-1937)の伝道師のような人たちである。セセッションとモダニズムの時代に京都を中心に活躍した、この著名な作家のデザインと作品について語っていたら、そりゃあ幸せそうな二人。花さんと私は大徳寺に行ったあと、二人のトークショウに出かけた。たぬきさんのマナザシはデザインのディテールに鋭く向けられる。それは例えば、タイルのパターンだとか、しっくいの型押しだとか、目地のおさめかたとか、。それでもって、なんのためにどうやってそんな形が出現したのかということを執拗に追求する。もし、建物の微妙な印象がそうした隠れた雄弁さによって決定するなら、ふーむ、私はもっと精進して気をつけて見なければ、いつも大雑把な類比だけでものを見る癖があるから、と思うのであった。

Karahori Walker / pirikainankle

My friend and I came up to Karahori Osaka. Karahoris a fun town sitting on a range of hills, and I always like having a look at a slope going down into the tunnel at the underground station. The town is now getting high-profile for craft artists and independent retailers because there still remain a nice shopping street with many of common stores and some good old houses at the coner of the streets. We enjoyed hanging around, shopping, and nice cup of tea. Having supper at a steakhouse, a judical scrivener drew my attention on the opposite side of the street. Well it looks quite a trivial office on the first floor of a building which perhaps no one but the clients won't notice, but for me it looks exciting imagining if it was a set of sitcom, maybe John Cleese (Chosuke Ikariya if possible on the Japanese version) on the head of the office with a bit eccentric people of the town? OK, I know I am sometimes possessed with a conceit like this, but it seems this is what the town makes charming, that is a good combination between life and bussiness in human scale.
友達と大阪・空堀散策。空堀は坂の連なる町でいつも地下鉄を降りると列車のトンネルの先が下っているのを見ておもしろいなーと思ってしまう。この町は庶民的な商店街が健在で懐かしい外観の街並みがそこここに残るので、おしゃれな職人さんや雑貨屋さんから注目されているところ。ぶらぶら買い物してお茶して楽しんできました。ハンバーグの店で晩ご飯をしていたときに、通りの向かい側の司法書士事務所がなんだか気になる。なんの変哲も無いビルの小さな事務所だけれども、あーこれってジョン・クリースなんかが所長で、周囲のちょっと風変わりな住民とで繰り広げるシットコム（ドタバタ・コメディTVシリーズね。日本なら、いかりや長介さんがいいかな）のセットにぴったりって感じ〜って悦にいる。まあ、私は時々確かに突飛な発想に取り付かれることは認めるとしても、これって空堀の職住一体型のヒューマンスケールの魅力を言い当てていると思いませんか？
