Visiting the Goryokaku citadel site, we took a streetcar. Acording to the website of the Hakodate city transportation bureau this type of vehicles was bought in 1958-1960. It was a little red one and I like the roundish front face.
五稜郭へ行くのに、路面電車に乗ったなり。この車両は函館市電HPによれば昭和35-37年に購入されたなり。ちっちゃい赤いヤツで丸っこい前顔がかわいいなり。

Hakodate Up and Down / pirikainankle

Hakodate is a harbour town on the tip of a cape Hakodateyama with a lot of sloping streets running down to the sea. It's quite often true that the sloping harbour like this is a romantic place with the nice view. Kobe, Onomichi, or some mediterranean towns, and Hakodate. The Daisanzaka street is one of the great slopes in Hakodate, and the stone tiles in honeycomb pattern looks so classy. Actually this street has been chosen as one of the best hundred roads of Japan. Also it was impressive of being planted row of rowan trees. You know I haven't seen the rowan avenue in the Kansai area yet. 
函館は函館山の岬の舌先にある港町で多くの坂道が海を望んでいる。こういう傾斜のある港町はえてしてロマンティックな場所であることが多い。神戸、尾道、ギリシャとかイタリアの地中海沿いの町、それから、函館。「大三坂」は函館のそうした素敵な坂道の一つで、亀甲型の敷石が良いたたずまいをしている。実際この道は日本の道百選に選ばれているそうだ。それにナナカマドの並木も印象的だった。関西でナナカマドの並木は見たことないからねえ。

Night Walk / pirikainankle

Didn't have much time, so we walked around Hakodate at night. In the middle of the hill side there was a stone pavement and you can see some nice old buildings along the street like the town hall, the English Consulate and churches. I guess it would be cooler to walk in daytime looking those exquisite historical heritages from the trimly hedging pavement, but it was still great in nighttime as well. I love the Orthodx Church with the circular garden.
あまり時間が無かったので、さっそく夜に函館の街を散策する。丘の真ん中に石敷きの舗道があって、この道に沿って公会堂とかイギリス領事館とか教会群など近代建築がよく見える。この舗道はきれいに生垣があしらわれていて、その向こうにすくっと立つ歴史遺産を昼間に歩いて見ればもっと感動したかもしれないが、夜でもそれなりにスバラシイ。なかでもハリストス教会は円環状の庭に囲まれていてずでぎぃ〜と思いましたです。

Farmer's Border / pirikainankle

My working place is sort of Osaka suburbs with the dominance of half rural half industrial economy. It's a rough landscape to be honest along the main traffic roads but still you see the settlement of farmers' ponderous houses with the barn-gate. Autumn, it's still hot and the rice field glistens with the candescent sunlight. They like to grow flowers along the working path and I found the brilliant colours in autumn flowers. It looks burning and the greenish yellow of the field is a perfect contrast. I have seen Celosia cristata as a bit of grotesque but they showed me the possibility of the colour.
私の職場は半農反産業的なところにあり、主要道路のまわりはいささか殺伐とした風景が広がるが、それでも長屋門で囲んだごっつい農家の集落が見られる。秋、まだ暑くて田んぼは白熱の太陽の下でぎらぎら光っている。農家の人はあぜ道に花を植えるのが好きで、秋の花が鮮やか。花は燃えるような色で田んぼの緑がかった黄色と好対照を成している。ケイトウなんかちょっと気色悪いよねえと今まで思っていたけど、色の取り合わせで可能性があると教えてくれる。

Taste of Aging / pirikainankle

Finally my little ice berg had come back again at the end of September. I love it in Autumn more than in Spring or Summer. It is always slow, taking quite a long time to have a good flower bud, mostly a couple of weeks or more. I see a bud one day, then I think, hmm, maybe it will flower tommorow, but it has never come so soon. I always wait day after day watching the bud bulging with pink tint on a tip of petals, then, suddenly I found it open in a morning. It looks so proud and graceful and you can enjoy one for a week. The Summer one is quick to go and fun itself but no match for the autumn. Actually they say the autumn rose has rich deep colour. I can't see it in white but I know it.
ついに我が愛しのアイスバーグが九月の末にまた咲いてくれた。秋のバラには春や夏とは違う格別の愛着を感じる。秋バラはいつも遅くて、花の蕾の準備が整うのに結構長い時間、たいていは二週間とかそれ以上も掛けてくれるのだ。ある日蕾を見て、ふむ、こりゃ明日咲くかもと思っても決してそう簡単に咲いてくれない。いつも一日また一日と待って、蕾の花びらの先がピンクに染まりながら膨らむのを観察し、そしてある朝突然あ、咲いてると気づく。その様子は誇らしげで品があって、また一つの花で一週間くらい楽しめる。夏のバラはすぐに咲いてそれ自体楽しいけど、秋の優美さにはかなわない。実際、秋バラは色合い深く鮮やかだと言われるらしい。白いバラに色合いといってもなんだけど、私はそれをちゃんと知っている。

It's the path that matters when you draft the plan of an outdoor space. Straight or winding. Keeping the same width or Changing by gradation. Rough. Smooth. What color. Pavement, grass, stones. How many people walking are there. AND WHY YOU NEED IT. Asking on your own, Struggle but fun when you scribble with automatic hand strokes. Naturally you take a look at a path like this.
And then, this is a drain ditch dug on the edge between the path and the hill of grove. This seemes made to flow rain water, but winds like waves with an elaborate work of cobbles. The wild grass stitches the cobbles. Walking on the path along the wavy terraces, I liked the ditch looking like a ruin.
屋外空間の図面を引いてみると園路ってなかなか難しい。真っ直ぐか湾曲させるか。道幅を同じままでいくか、徐々に変えるか。路面は素材感を出すかスムースにするか。色は。舗装か、芝か、石敷きか。何人の人が通る？なぜそうしたいのか。自問自答しながら手の勢いに任せて殴り描きして苦しいけど楽しい作業だ。そして自然と写真のような園路に目がいく。
そしてこれは排水溝であるらしく、園路と林になった丘の間に掘り込まれている。雨水を流すためのようだが波状に湾曲を繰り返していて石を敷いて丁寧に仕上げている。草が石の間を縫って茂っている。波形のテラスに沿って園路を歩くと、この溝がなんだか遺跡みたいに見えて楽しい。

Garden at Shiga Art Museum #01 / pirikainankle

Visited Isamu Noguchi Exhibition held at Shiga prefefctual modern art museum. Well I coudn't help myself thinking this was not as impressing as the last retrospective I had seen in Kyoto. Works were so packed each other although I was happy to see "Midnight Sun" again. In the permanent exhibition I quite like Brancusi's "Bird in space" but still I saw it far from perfect with the lighting and the partition wall. Good thing is that I like some of Japanese painting collection like Keisen Tomita'a and Seiju Omoda's. 
Well, the outside park was wonderful; it was wholl surrounded by the undulation of a hill, and outdoor sculptures along the path are giving some tention in the space. I felt it was like the scene from "Celestial citadel of Laputa". 
滋賀県立美術館のイサムノグチ展。内容はうーん、昔見た京都での回顧展の時の感動に比べると小粒な感じがしてしまった…「真夜中の太陽」に再会できたのは嬉しかったですが全体に展示も詰め込みすぎだし…常設展ではブランクーシの「空間の鳥」が良かったですが、こちらも照明や壁にもっと気合を入れてほしいかもです。日本画の常設コレクションにいいのが多かったです（富田渓仙、小茂田青樹とか）。そして今回は滋賀美の外回りが収穫でした。全体が丘の起伏を利用した公園になっていて、散策路には野外彫刻が空間を引き締めています。草むらに寄り添う彫刻群、例えるならば天空の城ラピュタみたいです。

One and Only Moment / pirikainankle

Alas, tha't why I've always got to carry a camera with me wherever I go. Ken Domon told that every his subject flees away. I am far from the artist, but actually I'm a bit upset and nervous when I come across such view at a moment like this. It was a changeable rainy day, the clouds were thick, but suddenly they get pulled away by the graring sun set, and the water shows a volatile opening to its parallel world. You never know how "it" dramatically changes although it's only a reservoir on the Reizen street.
The reservoir is the terminal end of the Lake Biwa channel and the promenade was set along the water with cherry trees. It's difficult to say something about the place, sometimes it looks quite an ordinary place. But I always love it especially in late afternoon, maybe because of a space like this just abandoned.
こういうことがあるからカメラは手放せない。土門拳は被写体が走り去っていくというようなことを言った。そんな芸術家にはとても及ばないが、私もこんな瞬間の風景に出会うと、緊張してあせってしまう。この日の天気は変わりやすく、雨雲が厚く重なったかと思うと、突然ぎらぎらとした夕焼けの太陽に引きちぎられ、水が異世界への移ろいやすい入り口をぽっかり開けたのだった。一瞬前まではただの冷泉通の貯水池に過ぎなかったのに、なんと劇的に変わる景色。
この池は琵琶湖疏水の終着点で、水辺に沿って桜並木の散歩道を敷いている。この場所について一言で言うのは難しい。時々すごく平凡だと思うのに、いいとこだなと、特に夕方頃なんかに思うのは、多分人は知らなくても静かに時間が流れるこういう空間があるからかもしれない。

Okazaki Strolling / pirikainankle

There is the coner around Okazaki which I always come by on bike from the Marutamachi street. It's a quiet quater with a charming turning like this. Mixed with Temples and old houses. All of those are decent but don't look such luxuary homes as others in this area but the building style and materials make me feel at home. Mind you, there is a 1930's style house with dark blown tiles and tall windows... 
On the lift hand side there are some shrubs of Hibiscus syriacus in bloom. Their rose colour were glowing on the back of the wall. The wood wall looks stoic but gives a sense of richness at the same time.
丸太町から自転車で下がって、岡崎のとある一角にいつも寄ってしまう道がある。住宅がひっそり寄せ集まっていて、いい感じの曲がり角がある。お寺さんと住宅が混在して、建物の雰囲気は品があるけれど、岡崎の他の邸宅と比べると特に高級住宅地とは見えない。だけど昔からの素材と外観の家並みでほっとくつろげる。それに1930年代風のこげ茶のタイルに覆われた高い窓のついた洋館もあるのだ…左手にはムクゲが何本かきれいに咲いていた。ローズ・ピンクの花が板塀の黒に引き立てられている。この板塀は主張を抑えているが、同時に何か豊穣な雰囲気も併せ持っているようにも見える。
